Thanksgiving card messages
Thanksgiving messages for family
Thank your family for something specific and tell them you're glad to belong to it. Leave out guilt about who is or isn't coming, and keep any mention of someone missing short and gentle.

Personal message
This year I'm grateful for something simple: DETAIL. It reminded me how lucky I am to belong to this family, with all its noise and kindness. Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for keeping us close.
Make the words yours
Use DETAIL for a shared tradition or memory. Pick one that everyone receiving the card will recognize and enjoy hearing about.
If someone can't be there this year, or someone is missing from the table, one gentle line such as 'thinking of everyone, near and far' keeps the card kind without dwelling on it.
A handwritten sentence in your own words turns a short message into a keepsake. Add it under the message you chose, or write the whole message by hand.
Ways to sign the card

When Thanksgiving falls
Thanksgiving Day is a US federal holiday held on the fourth Thursday in November. In 2026 it falls on Thursday, November 26.
If you want a card to reach someone before the holiday, send it during the week before.
Use the message in your own card
Copy the wording into a card or a message you send yourself. Replace NAME with your name and DETAIL with the tradition, memory or moment you want to name; remove any brackets that remain.
Choose only words you are comfortable sending. This page supplies message ideas, so keep personal names and memories in the card or document you are preparing.
A few useful answers
What do you write in a Thanksgiving card to family? Thank them for something specific and say you're glad to be part of the family. Add a memory if you have one.
What if I can't be there for Thanksgiving? Say so warmly and tell them you'll be thinking of them. Mention when you'll talk or visit next only if you've planned it.
Is it okay to send one card to the whole family? Yes. Address it to the household and sign it from everyone who agrees with the wording.
