Christmas card messages
Christmas messages for anyone on your list
Write a warm wish for the season and add one personal line, such as a memory or a thank-you. If you're not sure how someone celebrates, keep the wish about rest, warmth and the new year rather than faith or family plans.

Heartfelt message
Christmas cards are my yearly excuse to say what I mean: I'm glad you're in my life. Thank you for DETAIL. I hope this Christmas gives back a little of the warmth you give everyone else.
Personal message
This card comes with a Christmas wish and a memory: DETAIL. It's one of my favorite moments from the year, and you were part of it. Merry Christmas, and here's to many more like it.
Warm message
I hope your Christmas morning starts slowly, your evening ends warmly and everything in between feels easy. You deserve a season that takes good care of you. Merry Christmas.
Make the words yours
A Christmas card doesn't need news or a long letter. One warm line and one personal detail, such as a memory in DETAIL, is enough.
If you're not sure how the person celebrates, keep the wish about rest, warmth and the new year rather than faith or family plans.
Writing a stack of cards? Pick two or three favorite messages and rotate them, then add one personal sentence to each card so none feel copied.

When Christmas falls
Christmas Day, December 25, is a US federal holiday. In 2026 it falls on a Friday.
If you want a card to reach someone before the day, send it in the first half of December.
Use the message in your own card
Copy the wording into a card or a message you send yourself. Replace NAME with your name and DETAIL with the memory or thank-you you want to include; remove any brackets that remain.
Choose only words you are comfortable sending. This page supplies message ideas, so keep personal names and memories in the card or document you are preparing.
A few useful answers
What do you write in a Christmas card? A short wish for the season plus one personal line, such as a memory or a thank-you. Sign with a warm closing and your name.
What can I write in a Christmas card when I don't know the person well? Keep it simple: wish them a restful holiday and a good new year, and skip personal details you can't be sure of.
Is 'Merry Christmas' or 'Happy holidays' better? Use 'Merry Christmas' for people you know celebrate it. 'Happy holidays' suits a mixed group or anyone you're not sure about.
